Terri Glass is a professional poet and writer who has been teaching poetry writing in the Bay area for eighteen years. A former biologist, she received a BA in biology from Western Washington University and later worked for the US Fish & Wildlife service before devoting full time to writing. Terri studied poetry writing with various institutions including the University of Washington, Portland State University and mentored under the poet William Stafford.
A national workshop leader, one of her specialties has been the River of Words program, where she taught teachers how to incorporate environmental awareness with poetic writing. She has also conducted poetry workshops to educators and therapists for the National Poetry Therapy Association and for the international ChildSpirit conference.
Terri has coordinated the Poets in the Schools program for Marin County, CA for several years and works as a poetry teacher to K-12 students in both public and private schools in the Bay area. She has been awarded grants from the Marin Arts Council and Poets & Writers to teach poetry in hospitals, senior centers and wildlife centers. She has also conducted classes at the College of Marin and Sonoma State University.
Terri is the author of a book of poems Unveiling the Mystical Light, (ISBN 0-9630532-0-5, Fisher-Dizick Publishing, 1991). She produced an award winning poetry and music CD called The Body of the Living Future (FoxPath Productions, 1998) and wrote Language of the Awakened Heart, a poetry guidebook for classroom teachers (Fund for Global Awakening Press, 2001). She has been featured in articles in the Marin Independent Journal (April 2001), the Pacific Sun, (August, 2000) and the San Francisco Chronicle, (May, 2001). Also her interviews include Artist Dialogue (April 1997) and by the radio station, KWMR 90.5 FM. Her poems and articles have appeared in anthologies and journals such as Besides the Sleeping Maiden, To Honor a Teacher, Pencil of My Dreams, Moon Wonít Leave Me Alone, Paths to Learning and Science of Mind magazine.
Familiar with the book circuit, Terri has held readings at bookstores such as Book Passages, A Clean Well Lighted Place for Books, The Book Depot, Borders Books, Codyís in the Bay area. She has also read her poetry in open spaces, poetry festivals and poetry series sponsored by Poets & Writers in Nevada, Ventura and Mendocino counties.
